Feature Focus: Photo Sharing Platform

You are running a race, you see the photographer up ahead, and no matter how tired you are, you stand up straight, smile, and make sure you look awesome.  Why? You want to capture the moment. You want to SHARE your experience. And you want to share it while you are still pumped about the race.

Gone are the days of waiting 2 weeks to buy overpriced race photos. Race photos are an extension of the race experience and Lapio is changing how those photos are shared.

With the power of Lapio, photos can be shared immediately with friends and family though social media; increasing race and sponsor exposure.

Let’s take a look…

Uploading photos is easy. Simply choose the photo file, choose whether you want to add a watermark for additional brand exposure, and click submit to upload the pictures to your race page.

Once the photos are uploaded, pictures are instantly available to participants and searchable by zone or time!

The photo platform is also mobile friendly, viewable on mobile phones and tablets. This ensures your race is accessible by participants and spectators, anytime, anywhere.

After photos are uploaded, participants can be tagged by bib number or tagged automatically by time when an additional timing mat is used for photos. Once participants are tagged, photos are shared directly to the participant’s Facebook timeline.  Think of photo sharing as free race advertising. More eyeballs equals more revenue.

The power of sharing photos through social media comes from the fact that your reach is limitless. Your brand strengthens with each share, like and comment. Lapio’s photo sharing platform allows you to enhance your participant’s race experience and your bottom line.

Lapio Launches Geotracking for Endurance Events

Lapio, Inc. a complete race solution that provides awesome race experiences for organizers, participants, and spectators, announces the launch of geotracking for endurance events, allowing spectators to accurately track participants during a race.

Geotracking joins Lapio’s already robust platform that combines race management, live streamed results, social engagement, photo sharing, and mobile to create the ultimate race experience from start to finish.

In recent years the most accurate way to track participants was by using multiple timing mats to provide an average pace of the participant. During an endurance event the participant’s pace can vary drastically between splits causing tracking to be an estimate and not based on real-time.  Lapio is combining the power of GPS-enabled devices and timing mats to create the most accurate, geotracking in the industry.

Using GPS-enabled devices is now a reality due to the increase in wearable technology:

  • The wearable market is set to expand from 9.7 million device shipments in 2013 to 135 million in 2018.
  • Fitbit fitness trackers are expected to triple to over 70 million devices by 2018.
  • Apple is expected to sell 30-40 million smart watches in its first 12 months of availability.
  • Garmin introduced new colors, further extending the appeal of wearable fitness to the masses.
  • Strava recently released a global heat map of 160 million activities and 375 billion GPS points.

GPS-enabled devices are changing the endurance industry by providing the missing component of location-based tracking: GPS coordinates. Race directors can now know exactly where participants are on the course, increasing event safety. Friends and family can now accurately track participants allowing them to follow their progress and cheer them on.

“We are passionate about providing precise data to race directors, athletes, and spectators. We have proven we can provide accurate, live results; geotracking was the obvious next step. We are not just adding a feature but enhancing an already powerful solution.” Says Klaus Preisler, Founder, Lapio, Inc.

Helping fund this innovation are three notable players in the technology industry, Co-founders Morten Primdahl and Alexander Aghassipour of Zendesk and Thomas Pedersen, Co-founder and CEO of OneLogin.

“Lapio continues to push the limits of innovation in the endurance industry. The introduction of geotracking just proves their motivation to not just be a player in the industry, but a leader.” says Thomas Pedersen, Co-founder and CEO of OneLogin.

Feature Spotlight: Adding New Categories – Advanced Options

When setting up a new event, you need to create categories.  These categories define the participant’s category options for registration.  For example, a category may be “Female 30-35”. The basic way to create categories is through our “create category” feature.

If you are creating multiple races with the same categories, then you are ready for our advanced options.  When creating your next event you can choose to copy categories from a previously added race. This will pull all the categories from your previous race into your new one – no muss, no fuss.

This  video shows you how to create categories using advanced options:

Happy Birthday to Lapio – 2 Years and Running!

This week Lapio turns 2! Hard to believe it has been 2 years since our Co-Founders Klaus Priesler and Anders Roerbaek started it all. As endurance racers, they saw a need to give participants a better race experience through accurate LIVE results and the ability to easily share their accomplishments with friends and family.

Today, with over 750 races, 310, 232 participants, 1,774,978 chip reading, streamed LIVE results, countless Facebook posts and photos shared; we’re humbled to see how quickly Lapio is changing the way races are experienced.

As a startup born in Denmark, we crawled. We proved our concept from customer to customer. Then we started to walk. We walked through Europe bringing on new partners, new races, and saying hello to returning customers.  Now, 2 years old, we’re running. Running into new countries, meeting new friends and powering awesome new races.

Along the way we’ve developed a pretty cool solution but we’re not done yet. We continue to innovate to give you, the race director, the tools you need to provide the best race experience for your participants.

Instead of race organizers having to use a different vendor for each of their race needs, Lapio has combined all the features you want in one, easy to use, integrated solution.

Lapio’s cloud-based software gives you all the innovative features you want, data accuracy you need, with access from anywhere. Your Lapio account gives you a complete overview of your race management tools, registration information, and timing data so that you stay in control of your races.

We’ve made race timing easy. With our patent pending automated hardware timing synchronization, anyone can time a race. Race organizers can now easily provide accurate, live results while saving big by handling in-house.

Lapio software is compatible with multiple hardware platforms. If you already own hardware, simply connect Lapio software to your timing hardware and begin providing results in minutes. If you are purchasing hardware for the first time, Lapio will work with you to find the best solution for your timing needs.

Lapio software gives race organizers control over your race revenue. With our merchant account integration, registration payments are deposited directly into your bank account. Giving you access to your money, when you need it.

Great tools are nothing without great customers. And we want to say a big THANK YOU to our customers.  If we threw a birthday party, you’d all be invited but here’s what a few friends of Lapio had to say!

“Wishing Lapio a happy happy birthday!  This year marks our second year using Lapio for the Los Altos Hills Pathways Run/Walk and we couldn’t be happier.”
Sarah Gualtieri, Los Altos Hills Parks and Recreation

“The Lapio system is not only a huge leap forward for timing software, it’s also a breakthrough for race directors looking to super-charge their races’ social media presence.”
Sam Fiandaca, Brazen Racing

“We are really happy to have partnered with Lapio. We are getting more engaged users, ROI in less than 6 months all while saving 40% on the cost of timing.”
Kristian Uhd Jepsen
 XTERRA Nordic

“Lapio’s LIVE results and the ability to integrate with social networks is going to drastically change South African endurance racing.”
Gerrit Pieterse, TimeMe

Another year older and another year wiser, we continue on our mission.

“At Lapio we want all races, from large to small, to enjoy the benefits of efficient, accurate timing combined with innovative features; all at an affordable cost.”

 Cheers to another year!

Customer Spotlight: TimeMe – Changing Endurance Racing in South Africa

With the introduction of new technology, the racing industry is changing. The once dominant PC-based software is now competing against cloud-based software with innovative features and enhanced timing capabilities. One market dramatically changed by this technology is South African endurance racing.

We interviewed Gerrit Pieterse, Co-Founder of TimeMe who shared how his team, using Lapio software, are responding to demand for better technology and taking the South African timing industry by storm.

Screen Shot 2014-03-06 at 12.12.16 PM.png

Little over a year ago we were busy organizing a mountain bike event and needed a company to do the timing for us, we could only get hold of one company and they only replied to our email requesting a quote, two months after the event. We then decided to buy our own equipment and start a timing company on a small scale. This small company has grown faster than we anticipated and we now have numerous events lined up. TimeMe is a young energetic sports timing company that is putting its stamp the local timing industry. Critics silenced, race organizers smiling and correct times given to such an extent that we managed to break 99% accuracy all the events we timed.

Endurance racing is certainly not new to South Africa, but the market only exploded a short while ago. Individuals all over South Africa are claiming top spots in International events. The fastest growing and still the most popular by a great margin is mountain biking and especially mountain bike stage races like the ABSA Cape Epic, Joburg2C and Sani2C only to name a few. Ultra marathon trail running and trail running stage races is also becoming increasingly popular in South Africa. People are even referring to Mountain biking as the new golf of South Africa.

LIVE results is the biggest issue in South Africa, there is a lot of different timing software companies claiming that they can deliver real time results, but they unfortunately still have major hiccups. The most common way is to export all your results into MsExcel and then it has to be populated and sorted, to make sense, before it can be loaded onto your website or the race organiser’s website, this is very time consuming and can sometimes take days if you don’t have all the athletes details – all this while athletes are crying to have their results.

Well firstly we have LIVE results, that’s actually streamed in real time, to our results page and accessible from anywhere in the world. The other major advantage is that the online entries are integrated into the software and we and the race organizer immediately know how many people have entered and we as race timers no longer have to wait for online registration sites to send us the data – which then still needs to be captured and imported onto our software, before we can start to time an event. Everything is brilliantly integrated with Lapio!

Dramatically! South Africa is and will always be one of the youngest countries in the world; we only receive the majority of the technology dead stone last. All the athletes constantly acknowledges and admire the technology from Europe and America, and it so happened to turn into a desire for almost each and every one of them. We believe with the introduction of Lapio will come a much bigger supporter base for endurance events with everything streamed to social networks instantly. Athletes families and friends will also be able to share in the joy of the participants as they cross the finish line, even if they’re hundreds of miles away.

Yes, we have a one day road cycling stage race called The Kremetart Stage Race. This is definitely the highlight of our year where Lapio’s technology would be able to set the benchmark for all the other timing companies/timing software. With a successful Kremetart Stage Race, loads and loads of COOL races are sure to follow!

Thank you to Gerrit and TimeMe from all of us at Lapio! As a company whose mission is to create innovative technology, we are proud to see our customers changing the way races are experienced and how those experiences are shared.
